Shahenshah depicts contemporary reality in the raw, but within the broad framework of a big commercial film. With an adequate dose of every nuance in human emotions: sizzling song and dance numbers; the colour of outdoor romance; the naughty tug-of-war between brother sister; the comic twists, and interludes; the operative style of the underworld; the connivance of police in perpetuating crime; the political interference for the haves at the cost of the havenots; the glaring dividing line between want and luxury; the price of honesty. And above all, the blind eye of justice that lets criminals off when some clever lawyer twists its arms, when evidence i tampered with, to frame an innocent, and let the guilty off the hook. Until a messiah emerges on the scene who is a self-appointed policeman, who makes his own rules, tries his own judgements. He is Shahenshah a terror to the underworld, and its accomplices in the corridors of power.
